GSNO - Spring Semester Is In FULL SWING!

Hi Wonderful Folks!

Wishing each of you, student, professor, and staff an optimistically-minded happy Spring!  It's just around the corner!  I'm sure you have been wondering, "Where has GSNO been? I haven't seen an email yet!"  Well, like many of you, we are tasked students, but fear not, below is an email brimming with opportunities to be involved with other graduate students and to help shape our educational and extracurricular

THIS WEEK

Feb 8 7PM.  Come out and support Professor Dr. Gabriel Culbert and VP Chris O'Brien in the 17th Annual Challenge of the Deans.  GSNO is sponsoring 10 tickets to the event.  Limit 2 per student.  This will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Please sign up using the following link: https://goo.gl/forms/LZ3DmiwdSnwpnmLI3

Mock Interview Volunteers Needed!  The urban health program is looking for volunteers on February 8th (4:15-6:00), February 13th (4:15-6:00) and February 22nd (4:15-6:00). If any of the members of GNSO would be willing to volunteer with this program, we would really appreciate the help! We are looking for about 6 volunteers each date. If anyone is interested, they can contact Allison Mulchrone (mulchro2@uic.edu).  This is a great opportunity to reach out to prospective students and build connections early!

Looking for NEW committee and campus reps for Spring!  If you are interested, please contact Annie Perry Shideler (APerry27@uic.edu) for more information and nomination.  We are always looking for DNP and PhD students to serve on committees as well as MS students. The following representatives are needed:

Curriculum Committee - DNP student - you would serve alongside a PhD and MS student on the curriculum committee with faculty.  This is an important representative position that meets once per month to discuss items in the curriculum and make potential changes.

Graduate Entry Representative - This is a general representative position that liases between the college and GSNO.  Time commitment is minimal and you would interact directly with the GSNO eboard and individuals within the CON community.  This position was vacated by graduation last semester.

Regional Campus Reps - If you are on a regional campus and would like to serve as a regional campus rep, especially a the Spring Conference meeting, please contact us as soon as possible. Representatives are needed from Urbana, Quad Cities, Rockford, and Springfield.

Represent GSNO at the CON Chilli Cookoff February 19!  We are going to sponsor one student, including entry and supplies to enter the Chilli Cookoff on behalf of all graduate students.  Do you have a recipe with what it takes to win?  Contact Annie (APerry27@uic.edu) to be our head chef!

This year we are doing something NEW.  GSNO is hosting our Spring General meeting at one of our regional campuses:  Urbana!  If you are interested in helping plan or traveling with students from Chicago to Urbana, please contact Dana Jensen (djense7@uic.edu).  How would a meet then mingle format work off campus? We will be broadcasting the meeting live on our Facebook Page to increase attendance.  Please send us your ideas and help us plan!

Elections Watch out in the next few weeks for a call for nominations for GSNO positions for the 2018-2019 school year.  Serving on GSNO is very rewarding and looks great on a resume!  Think about it and when that email arrives, click the link to nominate yourself for a position. Chris O'Brien (cobrie26@uic.edu) will lead all election activities.
